The Road No One Chooses to Take

The presentation that affected and changed me the most was the presentation about sex trafficking. This affected me because it is such a horrific and terrifying problem in the world today. This presentation also changed my thinking in a way where it got me to try and help stop sex trafficking and to know that it is wrong and no one in the world boy or girl should capture, abuse, and enslave a human being. In this presentation it really motivated me to want to go and try to set up or join a group or program that helps to stop sex trafficking. One of the many interesting facts that I learned was that many big companies traffic in there workers one of them being Walmart. The presentation about sex trafficking really changed my thinking in many ways and inspired me to go out and do something about this horrifying issue that is going on right now in the world.

Health Care Reform ("How to Stop Socialized Health Care" by Carl Rove)

In the article "How to Stop Socialized Health Care" by Carl Rove creates a new idea about what I think about health care because changing the health care system changes many things and atributes to our society. For instance one of the examples that Carl Rove uses is that "It's unnecessary. Advocates say a government-run insurance program is needed to provide competition for private health insurance. But 1,300 companies sell health insurance plans" This changes my thinking about health insurance because it is saying that small businesses or private insurers will suffer if we go to this new health care reform. If we do go to this new health care plan the government will own all of the insurance witch takes away from many of the businesses and insurers. Later on in the article Carl Rove proceeds to give another example on why we should not move to this new health care witch states: "families pay about $1,800 more a year for someone else's health care." This was a shocking statistic and changed my thinking about switching to this new health care reform, because american families or taxpayers would be paying a ton more money for not only there health care but for someone else's health care as well. I feel like this is unfair treatment and gives me all the more reason to say we should not change to this new health care reform. With changing to this new reform we would be risking many changes, many of witch can hurt us in the future for instance small businesses or private insurance being in trouble because they can no longer pay there employees with insurance plans. As well, tax prices would go up in huge amounts and only the taxpayer would be paying for it witch means that they are paying for way more then just there own health care. The article"How to Stop Socialized Health Care" by Carl Rove changes my thinking about the new health care reform to where I believe that we should not change to the new health care reform because of the dangers that it can create for our society later on.

PLN Independent Reading

In "Flyte" Angie Sage uses a magical world that relates to the real world around us, Angie uses real life struggles and adventures but with a magic twist on them. The struggles that many of the characters face is much like our struggles today like when the main character Septimus is faced with having to become a great leader when he is just a little boy. In our own life we also have to become a leader at a very young age as well. The adventures are when the main character and his friends are faced with some hard choices and adventures with a magic dragon boat. Although in our world we do not have a dragon boat we do have our own adventures and choices that we have to make on our own or sometimes with the help of friends. The book "Flyte" helps us relate to the many struggles and adventures that we have in our own life but the magic twist makes it blood stirring and sweat drawing book to read and enjoy.

Conflict in "Anthem"

In “Anthem” Ayn Rand has many conflicts that occur through out the book, one of them being a conflict between the knowledge of technology by knowing about the possibilities of life and the head council who are trying to prevent there countries people from having that knowledge of technologies and the possibilities of life. When Equality 7-2521 is able to discover a new technology that no one else has discovered before its called electricity or light. He becomes very excited and has a pride in himself that he was able to make it all by himself. “We made it. We created it. We brought it forth with our own hands. Our mind. Ours alone and only.” Equality 7-2521 has this sense of pride in what he has created and discovering and wanted to present this amazing discovery to the head council. Here is when Equality 7-2521 stands in front of the head council and starts to see that they are not as proud of him and his in invention and realizes that they probably will not be proud of him for his new discovery on electricity or light. “We looked up into the faces of the council, but there is no curiosity in those faces and no anger, and no mercy.” Equality 7-2521 realizes that the council will not be happy with what he has discovered and that they might even punish him for what he has discovered. Here creates a conflict between man verse man. A conflict between a sense of pride in this new invention of discovery to the council not caring and maybe angry with what has been found against the rules.

Ski passes for vail and other resorts

For the article that i read it was on the passes for skiing at a resort called vail. This resort is extremely expensive and so are the season passes. In this passage they where recommending that you go to a smaller less popular resort. One reason is to avoid the long lines and the over population of vail and other front range ski resorts. The second reason on why you should go to a smaller less popular ski resort is because they are less expensive and you get more for your money. To summarize this article the main message was that ski passes are getting much to expensive and the resorts are to crowded with no room to grow so I and the author of this article would strongly recommend that you go to a smaller less crowded and less expensive ski resort.

In the story "The Scarlet Ibis" the actions of the main character towards his little brother Doodle have a great effect on the ending result where the younger brother ends up dying. The actions of the older brother effect Doodle because he tries to push him so hard to become normal and strong, but instead of making him strong he ends up endangering his life and making him weaker witch causes him to die in the end. Because of the main characters actions it changes the life of the character Doodle.
